TONASKET – A great turnout of ropers and barrel racers graced the Tonasket Rodeo Grounds on Sept. 16.
“The day was perfect with a great turnout and super weather,” spokeswoman Karen Zittel said. “It was the perfect indian summer day.”
Steer ropers Ron Blondin and Hec Selvidge in a field of 52 teams turned in the fastest time in the first round of 7.79 seconds.
But it would be Caesar Bobadilla and Ben Kirshner, who cash first place with a two-run time of 18.04.
Second went to George Zittel and Lloyd Nidrey at 19.72.
Third went to chance Popelier and Deb Knight at 20.25.
Fourth went to Don Dagnon and Don Frazier at 25.10.
National Barrel Horse Association sanctioned the barrel racing where racers gained points in the Carol Downey Memorial Saddle Series and also district points, Karen Zittel said.
There were 29-barrel racers in open, four in senior, four in youth and four in peewee, she said.
“A lot of our competitors will be going to the NBHA state finals held in Moses Lake from Sept. 21-23,” Zittel said.
“Special thank you to Trampas Stucker and Rhonda Colbert for their endless hours of work putting together events for local competitors to come to,” Zittel said. “It is so great to have an event in your own back yard was the comment heard throughout the arena.”
