CASHMERE – The No. 6 state-ranked Brewster team started slowly Oct. 4 at Cashmere before winning, 3-1, in a league match.
Brewster won 22-25, 25-18, 25-22 and 26-24.
“Cashmere played scrappy volleyball and made us earn our points,” Brewster coach Marcy Boesel said. “We had a good serving night, which helped our cause. “
Brewster made 86 of 93 serving, inbounds.
Of note, Cascade (8-0, 8-0) is ranked No. 2 and Chelan (8-1, 8-1) No. 4 in the latest state 1A coaches volleyball poll.
Both Cascade and Chelan are ahead of Brewster (6-2,. 6-2) in the league standings.

ENTIAT – Pateros showed no fatigue playing a second match in two days by taking out Entiat, 3-0, in a league match Oct. 4.
The No. 2 state-ranked 1B Nannies, who also could have been tired from homecoming activities, won 25-18, 25-12 and 25-19 for their first league victory. Up to now, Pateros has been playing a non-league schedule.
“It’s pretty weird to play our first league match in October, but good to have it under our belt in the middle of a busy week,” Pateros coach Gene Dowers said.
Pateros (9-1) plays at Manson (4-2) in a rescheduled non-league match on Monday, Oct. 15.

COULEE DAM – Lake Roosevelt topped Liberty Bell, 3-2, in a tough five-set league volleyball match Oct. 4.
The Raiders won 25-16, 22-25, 14-25, 25-18 and 18-6.
“Lake Roosevelt was a super rough game,” Liberty Bell coach Tim Boonstra said. “It takes a ton of mental focus and tenacity from a team to be able to drive a couple hours and play its best.”
Liberty Bell was up 2-1 before the Raiders charged back.
“Our girls are starting to play a lot better, just a little inconsistent,” Boonstra said. “But, with my best coach’s optimism, I think we’re becoming a threat at least in our district.”
The teams went back and forth in the final before being at 16-16.
The Mountain Lions missed a serve and Lake Roosevelt made a final point.
“The fifth game was super exciting,” Boonstra said. “It was a ton of fun.
“We came out on the short end of that battle. We’ll be looking forward to when they come visit us, and hopefully we fare a little better.”
Oroville (0-8, 0-2 league) is at Liberty Bell (3-6, 1-2) on Thursday, Oct. 11.
PATEROS – The Pateros High School volleyball team needed five sets to dispatch Almira/Coulee-Hartline in a non-league match Oct. 3.
Pateros won 25-19, 20-25, 15-25, 25-16 and 15-12.
“This was the big rematch of the season,” Pateros coach Gene Dowers said. “We lost in three sets when we visited them and wanted to redeem ourselves at home. “We handled their serve much better than last time.”
With matched tied 2-2, Pateros fell behind 5-0 in the fifth and deciding set.
“The girls weren’t going to be denied,” Dowers said, who watched the Nannies go on a 15-7 run to win. “Everybody stepped up and played until the tank was empty.”
