     LEAVENWORTH – The Omak girls finished third and boys sixth at the Leavenworth Invitational cross country meet Oct. 6.
     “The smoke mostly held off, and you certainly couldn’t argue with the weather,” Cascade cross country coach Dayle Massey said.
     Eastlake’s Jordan Oldenburg set a course record of 15 minutes, 39 seconds, breaking the previous record by 11 seconds.
     Eastlake finished first and Quincy second in both the boys and girls races.
     Oroville’s Sierra Speiker, who did not compete, holds the girls course record of 18:49 set in 2011.

     RICHLAND – Oroville’s Sierra Speiker finished eighth (18:54.98) in an international field at the Richland Invitational high school cross country meet Oct. 6.
     Teams came from Washington, Oregon and British Columbia.
     Sierra Speiker finished eighth (18:54.98) in the meet that included many much larger 4A and 3A schools.
     North Central’s Katie Knight won the three-mile race for girls in 17:16.53.
     Camas Alexa Efrairnson was second in 17:22.87.
     Oroville girls in junior varsity (3 miles): 39, Callie Barker 23;56.27; 52, Lisa Hartvig 24:25.91; 132, Aya Cruspero 27:01.21; 169, Celene Cisneros 29:20.07.
     Oroville boys in varsity, division 2 (3 miles): 159, Diego Santana 20:32.01, and 171, Ronel Kee 22:21.65.
     
     WINTHROP – The region’s class 1B/2B high school cross country teams compete in the North Central League Championship on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Liberty Bell High School, 18 Twin lakes Road.
     The 5K race – on dirt and grass with short hills – starts and finishes on the football field.
     The girls varsity and junior varsity race starts at 1:45 p.m.
     The boys varsity and junior varsity race at 2:30 p.m.
     There is an open race as a fundraiser for the Mountain Lion Cross Country team at 3 p.m.
     Awards will be presented to the winning boys and girls team plus the Top 10 individuals in varsity races.
     Tonasket’s Damon Halvorsen, who has since graduated, set the boys course record in 2011 at 17 minutes, 28 seconds.
     Oroville’s Sierra Speiker, expected to race as a junior this year, set the girls record in 2011 at 20:37.
