CONCONULLY – The body of a missing Renton man was found inside his vehicle just off the northeastern shore of Conconully Lake on Wednesday, Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers confirmed.
Christopher D. Campbell, 50, had been camping at Fish Lake since Oct. 11 and was last seen at the Sit’nBull Saloon and Cafe on Nov. 2.
“Two divers went in and confirmed the vehicle is his; the plate matched. There was one occupant in it. Via radio to us they confirmed it was him,” Rogers said.
An autopsy will be scheduled to determine what caused the man to end up in the lake.
“It looks like he drove off that area,” Rogers said.
Randy’s Auto Parts and Towing of Okanogan was called in to pull the vehicle out after divers successfully located the truck.
Rogers was wowed by the community’s response to the missing man, who had relatives in town.
“A lot of the locals in Conconully formed their own search parties and searched the lakes and roads,” Rogers said. “A lot of people jumped in.
“We didn’t have to ask, they just did it.”
