ENTIAT – A local woman was woman was killed Monday in a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 97-A.
Summer Lea Diehm, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 7:40 a.m.
The driver of a second vehicle, Brandon James Feldhaus, 23, of Wenatchee, was injured and transported by ambulance to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the head-on crash occurred more than a mile south of town. Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to have been factors.
The crash occurred when Feldhaus’ northbound 2001 Ford Ranger pickup crossed the centerline and slammed into Diehm’s southbound 2004 Ford Freestyle Van, the State Patrol reported.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, the State Patrol reported.
Both vehicles were destroyed and the highway was closed for more than an hour, the State Patrol reported.
The crash remains under investigation and charges may be pending.
