OKANOGAN - Organizers of the Omak-Okanogan Christmas Basket Program have put out a last-minute call for donations of gift certificates for meat or cash to buy certificates.
Basket distribution will be at 8 a.m. tomorrow, Dec. 15, at the Okanogan County Fairgrounds Agriplex, 175 Rodeo Trail Road.
Donations can be taken to the Agriplex from 3-7 p.m. today, Dec. 14. Monetary donations may be made at Wells Fargo Bank, 21 W. First St., Omak.
The project, coordinated by the Omak-Okanogan Civic League and Omak Kiwanis Club, has a goal to provide at least 300 baskets with food for Christmas and staples for a week.
Co-organizer Constanza Smith said lots of food has been donated, but fewer meat certificates than normal. Organizers are afraid the project's bank account will be depleted if additional donations don't come in.
Suggested amounts are $10 for a small basket and $12-$15 for a medium basket.
Several local schools are helping to collect food and money for the basket.
In addition, local motorcyclists' Toy Run will provide toys and Caps for Kids, headed by Vicki Ledger, will offer warm hats, coats and boots.
