COLES CORNER – After 69 hours of closure, Stevens Pass is open today, Dec. 26.
Dozens of trees on US Highway 2 shed excess snow and are no longer a threat to fall over, officials said.
“With continued warmer temperatures, a breeze and much lighter-than-expected snowfall, by mid-afternoon … the threat of falling trees had diminished to the point that the highway could reopen,” state Department of Transportation spokesman Jeff Adamson said.
Trees fell on two vehicles in the last week, killing two Bothell residents. Officials said that by Christmas morning, no more trees had fallen.
