OLYMPIA – The 12th Legislative District’s newest state representative was sworn into office during a ceremony Monday at the Capitol.
Rep. Brad Hawkins, R-East Wenatchee, took the oath of office for his first term as a state representative while his family watched from the state House chamber gallery.
“I’m honored the citizens of North-Central Washington have trusted me to represent them,” Hawkins said. “I will always be thinking of them when making decisions in Olympia. I look forward to this opportunity to serve.”
The district includes all of Chelan and Douglas counties and parts of Okanogan and Grant counties.
Hawkins works at the Douglas County Public Utility District and served on two Wenatchee-area school boards in addition to having worked on staff for the Washington State Legislature.
During the 2013 legislative session, Hawkins will serve on three policy committees – education, capital budget and business and finance.
“I am excited about all three committee assignments,” he said. “In particular, I believe my experience serving on local school boards will be useful to the legislative process and our district. This is the first time since 1978 that a representative from the 12th District has served on the House Education Committee.”
Taylor Kenck has been hired as Hawkins’ legislative assistant for the Olympia office.
Hawkins will be sending email updates during the legislative session, and encourages 12th District citizens to sign up through his Web site www.houserepublicans.wa.gov/brad-hawkins.
