OMAK – Two new staffers have joined The Chronicle.
Rebecca Sawyer has been as bookkeeper and John F. Cleveland II has been hired as a reporter.
Cleveland, 43, is a lifelong Brewster resident and an award-winning photographer.
“I am excited to start a new chapter in my life and glad The Chronicle is willing to give me a chance to continue working in my desired field of journalism,” Cleveland said.
Prior to joining The Chronicle, he was a longtime journalist for the Quad City Herald and its predecessor, The Brewster Herald. He also worked a short stint with the Hermiston Herald during the 1990s.
As a reporter, he will cover the Brewster-Pateros-Bridgeport area, including general assignment news and sports.
Sawyer, 39 succeeds Tammie Moon.
“I decided to take a step back and go back to my roots with numbers,” she said. “I’m excited about making the change out of health care and trying something new.”
Sawyer, was a manager for Lincare. She has an associate degree in health care administration, and is working on a bachelors degree in administration through Ashworth College in Pennsylvania and a minor in human resources through Penn Foster Career School; both are in Pennsylvania.
Sawyer has lived in Oroville most of her life. She and her husband, Bryan Sawyer, have two children, Brandon, 19, and Rachael, 16.
She said she enjoys the outdoors and attending her children’s sporting events. She is the secretary of the Okanogan County Tourism Advisory Board.
“We are lucky to have hired such talented area residents,” Chronicle Publisher Roger Harnack said of Cleveland and Sawyer. “Both are sure to be assets to our newspaper, readers and advertisers.”
