OMAK - School Superintendent Arthur Himmler was killed in a one-vehicle crash at 7 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, while on his way to Wenatchee for an educational meeting.
As of mid-morning, the Washington State Patrol was still investigating.
Road conditions were slick at milepost 251 on U.S. Highway 97, about two miles south of Pateros, where the crash occurred, the patrol said.
School Board Chairman Wendell George confirmed Himmler died at the scene.
Himmler was headed to a teacher-principal evaluation process meeting in Wenatchee, school officials said.
"It is with great regret and sorrow we need to share this information," George said in a statement to school staff.
Himmler's family has been notified and arrangements are being made.
"In this great time of sorrow, please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers," George said.
Himmler, 68, was hired March 2, 2009. Before that, he was superintendent in the Steilacoom Historical School District.
