OMAK - Longtime North Central Washington educator Tom Pickett has been tapped as interim school superintendent.
The School Board named Pickett, 71, during a special meeting Feb. 19 to succeed Art Himmler, who died Feb. 7 in a vehicle crash.
Pickett worked for more than 30 years in education and for the past 16 years has been a pre-litigation adviser for Ephrata insurance firm Canfield and Associates, which administers insurance pools for public agencies statewide.
This is the fourth time Pickett has been an interim superintendent position. He previously was an interim superintendent in the Chelan, Cascade and Eastmont districts.
The board also agreed to have Northwest Leadership Associates conduct a superintendent search, with the goal of having someone in the position July 1.
