OMAK - A team of sixth-graders placed second in the regional Math is Cool competition Feb. 8.
Sixteen Omak Middle School students competed against schools of similar size.
As a team, they earned 87 points and competed in mental math, multiple choice, a team test, math relay and three college bowl-style events, adviser Randy Langseth said.
"Everyone was super excited as this was the highest this team has ever placed," he said. "Everyone had fun and we are looking forward to being even better next year."
In individual testing, Bradon Maple placed the highest for Omak with a score of 31, good enough for ninth place overall. He won a trophy and a water bottle.
