Obituary: Betty Taylor
Betty L. (Shove) Taylor passed away at home with family and friends at her side Feb. 15, 2012, in Omak, Wash., after a brave battle with her extended illness.
She was born in Omak on Sept. 8, 1932, the second of four children of Ira and Dorothy Shove. She was the granddaughter of Okanogan County pioneers Ranger and Ema Leese of Aeneas Valley. Betty lived her entire life in Omak and attended Omak schools, where she graduated in 1950.
On July 1, 1950, she married the love of her life, J.W. Taylor, at Omak Methodist Church. They were married 61 years before his death on Sept. 8, 2011. She worked at Ballard Drug for 15 years during her children’s school years. During that time, she was also involved with Omak Junior Civic League working on a number of community projects and club activities.
Betty and Jay’s favorite events were following their children and grandchildren around the northwest for school and sporting events. Betty’s classmates and school friends provided wonderful lifelong relationships.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Marilynn) Taylor of Omak; daughter, Penny (Mike) Hamblin of Spokane; daughter-in-law, Terri Taylor of Santa Barbara, Calif.; four grandchildren, Kelli Taylor of Austin, Tex., Graig (Melissa) Taylor of Huntington Beach, Calif., Amanda Taylor of Kennewick, and Taylor Hamblin of Spokane; three great- grandchildren, Madelynn and Isabella Coats of Kennewick and Julianne Taylor of Huntington Beach. Also surviving are her mother, Dorothy Shove of Omak; brothers, Jim (Emily) Shove of Omak and Del (Sallye) Shove of Pasco. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W.; son, Thomas; father, Ira; and one brother, Ray.
There will be private family visitation for a few days prior to the service.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at Precht Harrison Nearents Chapel on Elmway.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to Shriners Hospital in Spokane or to the Mark Rypien Foundation in Spokane.
