Obituary: Kenneth Lee ‘Short’ Myers
Long-time Methow Valley resident Kenneth Lee ‘Short’ Myers died June 19, 2012, in Pahrump, Nev., after a short illness.
He was born June 1, 1926 in Cusick, Wash., to Lowell James and Gladys Mae Myers, his early years were spent in Pleasant Valley where he rode horseback to a one-room school house. He went on to attend Okanogan High School, leaving in 1943 to join the Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific aboard an aircraft carrier. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Okanogan County and worked primarily in the timber industry.
He married Eva Skelton on Dec. 24, 1948. They moved their family to Twisp in 1956 where they grew apples and Short worked for the Wagner Lumber Company. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowshoeing and spent many hours walking in the hills surrounding the family home with his dog, Jack.
He is survived by his sister, Vada Johnson of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; daughter, Verna Myers of Paradise, Calif.; son, Kenneth (Jim) Myers of Pahrump, Nev.; daughter, Wanda Myers of Twisp, Wash.; granddaughters, Rachel Ericsen of Oakland, Calif. and Sarah Avery of Port Angeles, Wash.; and two great-grandsons, Logan and Evan Avery.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva; and his brother, Lowell Willis ‘Son’ Myers.
At his request, no services will be held.
