Obituary: Destiny ‘Dez’ Clinton Riggs
Destiny ‘Dez’ Clinton Riggs passed away very peacefully July 5, 2012, surrounded by family. He was born Feb. 24, 1967 to Clinton Riggs and Glenda Yates in Modesto, Calif. He was the middle child of four children.
Dez grew up in numerous foster homes throughout the years, and lost touch with his birth family. He was placed with George and Kay Bailey. He spent many years with the Baileys where they encouraged his love for the outdoors and animals. To Dez, they were mom and dad.
He was an active football player in high school and was on the Eatonville Football team when they won the state championship.
He was assistant football coach at Paschal Sherman Indian School for an undefeated season in 2008-2009. He was an active parent, participating in all school activities, whether is was accompanying the kids to dig roots for the elders or bringing snacks for the soccer team.
Throughout the years and across the states Destiny took care of several ranches and all their livestock. His love of rodeo led him to ride broncs, barebacks and bulls. Years later he cared for the same animals for numerous rodeo companies and ranches. Destiny met and married Nancy O’Bryan and had one child, Kourtney, and then divorced.
He met the love of his life, Lisa Smith, at Wenatchee Valley College while bettering himself in life. Together they raised four awesome children, Kevin, 25, of Bridgeport; Christopher, 17, of Riverside; Joseph, 15, of Riverside; and Christina, 12, of Riverside. They spent many happy years raising children, miniature bucking stock for rodeos, hunting, fishing, camping, going to casinos and enjoying life.
Destiny was a gentle man, a good friend and a wonderful partner in life. He was very loved and will be greatly missed.
Destiny’s final resting place will be with Lisa, they will never be apart again.
