Obituary: Truda ‘Trudy’ Lenore Dykes
Truda ‘Trudy’ Lenore Dykes, 76 of Omak passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012 under the care of Rose Garden Estates, Omak. Trudy endured a courageous and noble fight with Alzheimers disease.
Trudy was born May 14, 1936 to Wesley and Doris Behymer. On July 27, 1951 she married Bernie Junior Dykes in Omak. Their life together was busy - working, playing, raising their three adventuresome boys, participating in large family gatherings, church activities, building two cabins in the mountains and their home in the country outside of Omak.
True to her simplistic and loving nature, Trudy later attended college to obtain her teaching credentials whereby she worked as a school teacher at the Pascal Sherman Indian School, Omak, until her retirement. Trudy bestowed her kind, loving nature on the school children as well as the children in her Sunday school classes which she taught for many years at the Omak Free Methodist Church.
Trudy enjoyed music, animals, flower gardening, working in the yard, crafts, reading, spending time at the family cabin in the mountains and spending time with family and she and Bernie’s grandchildren. Trudy was a gentle spirit and Godly woman who simply enjoyed raising her family, spending time with her best friend and husband Bernie and her family.
Trudy is survived by her three sons, Steve Dykes and daughter-in-law, Kelly, of Omak, Jeff Dykes and daughter-in-law, Kari, of Riverside, and Randy Dykes and daughter-in-law, Colleen, of Tri-Cities; grandchildren, Ryan Dykes and wife, Ashley, of Ellensburg, Sarah Dykes of Omak, Megan Dykes of Omak, Madisen Dykes of Riverside, Connor Dykes of Tri-Cities, and Emily Dykes of Tri-Cities, and two great-granddaughters, Summer Dykes and Jordan Dykes of Ellensburg.
Trudy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bernie; parents, Wesley and Doris Behymer; and her brother, Alan Behymer.
As a flower opening to the bright sun, Trudy’s soft and gentle nature will continue to touch lives for generations to come, she will be greatly missed.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the Cornerstone Christian Fellowship Church in Omak with an interment following the service at the Okanogan Valley Memorial Gardens.
