Obituary:Francis Silverthorn
James Francis Silverthorn, the only son of James Hartford and Frances Sauder Silverthorn, was born April 20, 1920 in Okanogan, Wash. and died peacefully July 29, 2012, in Tonasket, Wash.
Jim graduated from Tonasket High School and married his high school sweetheart, Betty Winslow, in 1939.
Jim worked for Cunningham Steel in Seattle, Wash. until 1943 when he returned to Tonasket. He owned and operated a small family orchard until his retirement in 1970. During his retirement he was an avid gardener and a hobby builder. His accomplishments included a personally designed motor home, a speed boat, an ultra light plane and an air boat – fondly known to his grandchildren as “the killer boat”.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; and one grandson. Survivors include two sons, Rodney Silverthorn (Colleen) and Tom Silverthorn, both of Tonasket; one daughter, Kathryn Kurtz of Bremerton, Wash.; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Thornhill Funeral Services of Spokane is in charge of cremation. Per Jim’s request, there will be no services. Private family burial will take place at the Tonasket Cemetery.
