Obituary:Jay Arnold Anthony
          The family of Jay Arnold Anthony, 73, announces his passing away early in the morning on Sept. 6, 2012. Jay passed away peaceably in his sleep at the Valley Care Center in Okanogan, Wash. Jay has resided at the care center since suffering a stroke at his home in Riverside, Wash. in 2007. The family would like to extend our appreciation to the “angels of mercy” who attended to Jay’s needs while at the center.
          Jay was born in Wilbur, Wash. on Aug. 20, 1939, at the Johnston Hospital. Jay was the ninth child of ten to be born to James Fredrick Anthony and Jamima Ann Hodgen. Jay and his younger brother, George, were the only two born in a hospital.
          Jay’s childhood was spent living with his parents and attending Nespelem schools. When Jay was a senior, Nespelem High School consolidated with Coulee Dam High School. Jay graduated from there in 1957.
          Jay worked at various job throughout Okanogan County, but finally settled in and worked many years as a bartender at the Riverside Tavern in Riverside, Wash. He was well liked and made many, many friends in the Riverside, Nespelem, and Omak areas.
          Jay is survived by his brothers, Fredrick Junior and George Everett Anthony and their wives, Julie (Fred) and Joan (George). Special mention is made of his two nephews, Scott and Ryan Anthony (Fred’s boys) who have lovingly bedeviled him since their births in 1976 and 1978.
          He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Jamima Anthony; and his siblings, Albert, Loren Leslie, Eleanor May Graves, Myrtle Alice Rinker, Marjorie Lee, Lila Eunice Johansen, and William Ellis.
          A graveside service will be held at the Nespelem Community Cemetery, located on “the Flats” just outside of Nespelem, Wash. at 1 p.m., Friday, September 14, 2012.
