Obituary:Stanley Clair Petersen
Stanley Clair Petersen died Nov. 18, 2012 at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.
He was born June 6, 1929, in the Omak Hospital, Omak, to George and Claire Petersen.
Stanley attended grade school in Omak and high school in Okanogan, where he graduated in 1947.
He married Phyllis Emily Root on Dec. 23, 1946.
Stanley was an oil distributor in the Okanogan Valley for more than 40 years.
He grew up working in his family’s apple orchards and later had his own. He loved his family and taking them fishing and camping to local lakes and the ocean beaches. He was a recreational pilot and enjoyed flying and hunting with friends. He was an avid fixer — and had a knack for making almost anything work. He enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and abroad, which included two trips to Denmark where he located relatives and explored his Danish roots. He was a devoted Christian who was as honest and positive as the day is long.
Stanley was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Okanogan Chamber of Commerce, and served for 40-plus years with the volunteer fire department.
He is survived by his sister, Helen Marcoz of Arizona; children, Shirley Klein of Wenatchee, Z Tony Petersen of Omak, Peg Hinshaw of McCleary, and Susan Bell, Marilou Baker, Patsy Rearden, and George Petersen, of Okanogan; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church on Elmway in Okanogan. A dinner will follow. Father Thomson will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Okanogan Volunteer Fire Department.
Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
