Edith “Edie” Ellen (Dobson) Sattler, 68, of Brewster, Wash., surrounded by family, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, after a battle with cancer. Edie was born on Jan. 20, 1945 in Brewster, Wash. to Marvin and Verlie (Rosetta) Dobson. She grew up in a large, loving family of 13 brothers and sisters. She graduated from Brewster High School in 1963. After attending Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa for one year, she moved to Spokane, Wash. to pursue a teaching degree. In 1968, she graduated from Eastern Washington College with a BA in K-12 education and a minor in French. After earning her degrees, she taught a range of subjects and coached several sports in Creston, Wash. for nine years. In 1974, she married Larry Sattler, with whom she enjoyed a loving relationship for over 20 years. She enjoyed family trips to Lake Roosevelt, Jones Bay, and California to visit her sister, Ida. In 1977, Edie and her family moved back to Brewster. While in Brewster, Edie taught 4th grade, junior high and high school language arts, computer class, journalism, and drama. She also actively contributed to the Brewster sports teams through coaching basketball and volleyball. In 1992, she graduated from Heritage College with a Master’s in bilingual education and administration. For over 20 years, she made a significant contribution to the Brewster education system through teaching, coaching, and administration. Shortly after marrying Gordon Sattler (1996), she retired from Brewster and started traveling to Arizona where she continued her educational work through Servants on Wheels Ever Ready (SOWERS). In 2002, Edie returned to the classroom in Bridgeport where she served in various positions (i.e., elementary and middle school special education and middle school math) until her passing. During this time, she also served on the Brewster School Board. In 2011, she was recognized for her dedication to Brewster Schools by being inducted to the Brewster Wall of Fame. While education was a significant part of her life, Edie was also an active member of her church and community.
Edie is survived by her husband, Gordon Sattler, of Brewster; children, Scott (Stacie) Sattler, of Brewster, and Ken (Erika) Sattler of Nampa, Idaho.
