James ‘Carl’ Hagerup, 83, of Okanogan, passed away Dec. 10, 2013 at Central Washington Hospital after a short illness.
He was born Nov. 11, 1930, to Steiner and Signe Hagerup in Renton, Wash. Whe he was 16 the family moved up the Entiat River where he worked in an orchard with his father. In 1945, the family moved to the Omak-Okanogan area.
He met Marilyn Murray on a blind date in 1954. They married April 2, 1955 and were together for 51 years, until her passing in 2006. They had five children.
He worked as a carpenter and in orchards with his father in his younger years. He worked at Biles-Coleman in the furniture factory, then went to the plywood plant. He retired in 1999. He owned and operated two orchards and did orchard work throughout the valley.
Carl and Marilyn enjoyed camping and fishing in their later years. He enjoyed carpentry in his spare time, assisting his family with building barns and a house. He was proud of his ability to “witch” wells. He was very proud of his family.
Carl is survived by his sister, Brit ‘Betty’ (Edwin) Tracy; and brother, Arne Hagerup; his five children, Tim (Alana) Hagerup, Jeff (Kim) Hagerup, Mike (Tammy) Hagerup, Edie Marchand and Danny Hagerup; 10 grandchildren, Signe (Jason) Butler, Stacie (Nathan) Munson; David (Cassie) Stevenson, Jennifer Hagerup, Amber Hagerup, Brandi Belgarde, Casey Moses, Jason Hagerup, Jesse (Corey) McCrarey and Jake Hagerup; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
