Virgil Leach (Virg), a resident of Malott for the past 31 years, died peacefully at his home on Feb. 14, 2013, with his wife, Mary and stepdaughter, Lisa, by his side.
He was born Feb. 13, 1937, in Kalispell, Mont., to Ray and Mable Leach.
He attended school in Kalispell and Tacoma, completing his education in the Air Force, where he served four years. He worked as a mechanic, spending many years at Johnny Appleseed.
His spare time was spent fixing cars, maintaining the house and garden, and observing the birds he fed daily. He had an abiding love for animals and couldn't bear to see them mistreated or hurt in anyway. He was a keen observer of nature and loved the outdoors. He loved his family and was very proud of them.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mable Anderson; his father, Ray Leach; his stepfather, Morris (Drake) Anderson; his sister, Marilyn Dixon; and his half-brother, Lawrence (Terry) Gould.
He leaves behind his wife, Mary, of 32 years; his daughters, Rebecca Dixon of N.C., and Victoria (Vicky) of Ohio; his stepdaughters, Camille Boyd of Brooklyn, N.Y., Nicola Lock of Padua, Italy, and Lisa Boyd of Norman, Okla.; his stepsons, Jeffery Boyd of Austin, Texas, and Nigel Lock of Yorkshire, United Kingdom; sons-in-law, Robert Scafe of Norman, Okla., and Michele Zorzi of Padua, Italy;
brothers-in-law, John Woodhouse of Yorkshire, United Kingdom, Colin Burgess of Cartegena, Spain, David Woodhouse of Bellevue, Wash., and Gerry Dixon of Tacoma, Wash.; and sister-in-law, Anne Burgess of Cartegena, Spain; eight grandchildren; and his faithful and constant companion, Patches.
A Rosary Vigil will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, following the 5:30 p.m. Mass.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 at Our Lady of the Valley Parish Church, Elmway, Okanogan. Father Lucas Tomson will be celebrant.
