James Martin Vess Jr., 70, a lifelong resident of Omak, died at his home on Jan. 8, 2013. Jim was born Nov. 9, 1942, in Omak, Wash. to James Sr. and Maria Vess. After graduating high school in the valley, he moved to Seattle where he attended vocational school and operated a tavern to pay his way when he was there. While working and going to school in Seattle, he met and married, Susan, the woman who became his wife of over 20 years. They moved back to Omak together, and Jim owned and operated Jim’s Appliance and Repair in Omak, where he became the most well known and trusted appliance handyman in the valley.
He is survived by sisters, Rita and Lita; daughter, Marie; son, Earl; sister, Kristie; and niece, Stephanie; as well as many other extended family. Jim is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Susan.
Jim loved to fish and to do anything that involved working with his hands. Jim was a man of his word, being of the mind and possessing the integrity that truly meant “your word was your bond.” He was a kind and honest man who would never turn anyone away. His heart and his home was always open to everyone. His extension of family and true friends is endless. He will forever be in our hearts and will be missed by many. Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel and the Okanogan Co. Crematory, LLC, are caring for the arrangements.
