Sharon Ann Redthunder ‘Kist,’ 67, left this earth Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, following complications of lupus, to a place free of suffering. Kist was born in the Nespelem, Wash. home of Ned Comedown Sr. and Christine Socula-Comedown on Oct. 23, 1945.
Sharon graduated Coulee Dam High School in 1963 and also attended Eastern Washington State University. On Saturday, Jan. 15, 1966, 20-year-old Sharon Comedown married her life’s companion, Keith Redthunder, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
A proud member of the Nez Perce and Moses Columbia bands, Sharon always enjoyed attending services at the Nez Perce Longhouse and dancing and visiting at Powwows throughout the country.
Sharon’s lifework included many years associated with the Native National Indian Land Working Group and positively impacting National Land issues benefiting all tribes. Always willing to serve others, Sharon was a diligent member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Nespelem American Legion Post #114, chairman of the Nespelem Senior Center, and past Parent of Indian Education. Sharon could be seen racing to the yard sales early in the mornings, bowling in tournaments, second hand shopping, making her magic meatloaf, or attending all her grandchildren’s activities.
She is predeceased by parents, Ned and Christine Comedown; three brothers, Ned Comedown Jr., Martin Comedown (and Sherry), and Albert Comedown; and sister, Alberta. Sharon’s legacy proudly lives on through her 47 year love, Keith Redthunder; their children, Terri, Sharey, and Lyle Redthunder; five favorite beloved grandchildren; numerous extended family members; powwow people; and her numerous colleagues throughout the United States.
