Hermina G. ‘Minnie’ Newlin, 80, was born Jan. 17, 1933 in Detroit, Mich. to Daniel and Katherina Dengel and died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013 at home.
She grew up on a farm in Westland/ Wayne, Mich. and graduated from Wayne High School. She married Stanley Newlin in 1952. Minnie was a secretary at P.D. Graham Elementary School in Westfield, Mich. and also worked at Ed Carpenters Dodge Dealer in Wayne, Mich. She and her husband moved their family to McHenry, Ill. in 1975 and she worked at McHenry County College. In 1978 she moved to Omak, Wash. and she worked at Omak High School for several years up until her retirement in 1995. In 2003 she moved to Grayslake, Ill.
Minnie had a special talent for making friends wherever she lived.
She loved gardening, canning from her fruit trees and gardens, quilting, crocheting, sewing, cooking and baking. She liked to share her baked goods with her many friends. Family holiday traditions included strudel making, German crepes and making cookies with her daughters and granddaughters.
She is survived by her children, Pam (the late Stan) Roubion, Danielle Garrity, Cindy (Russ) Schuman, Michael (Mary) Newlin, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Katherina Dengel, husband, Stanley, her siblings, Edna Watts, Daniel Dengel and her niece, Shelly Dengel.
Funeral service were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22 at St. John’s Lutheran Church 501 W. Park Ave. Libertyville, Ill. Interment is Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 in Glen Eden Cemetery Livonia, Mich.
