Ellen Cora Hallam, 91, of Okanogan, passed away at home Feb. 8, 2014, with loving family by her side.
Ellen was born to Bertha and Alex Bensing in Alva, Okla., and was one of eight children. She married Everette Hallam in Huntsville, Ark., in 1940. Ellen and Everette traveled to Omak in 1940 and remained as residents. Ellen and Everette were marred for 57 years and had three children — Kenny, Ilene and Earnie Hallam.
Ellen worked in various jobs, including apple sheds, orchards and the lumber mill. She was also a lifetime member of Good Sams Club, various quilting clubs and Red Hat Society. Ellen and Everette were also snowbirds and traveled to Arizona for several years.
Ellen’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, camping, fishing, gardening, crocheting and macrame. She also enjoyed her dog, Coco.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everette; their son, Earnie Hallam; and her brothers, Carl Bensing, Clifford Bensing and Lee Bensing.
She is survived by her children, Ilene (Dick) Dykes and Kenny Hallam, both of Omak; brothers and sisters, Juanita Robbins of Omak, Ross Bensing of Utah, Louella Buckingham of Okanogan and Ray Bensing of Illinois; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
The family would also like to share their fond appreciation to friends, Patty MacLean, Sue Brooks and Donna Austin, who shared a very special friendship with Ellen and always shared a smile or laugh with their numerous visits.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Society to Prevent Cruelty to Animals through its website ASPCA.org or a local animal shelter.
Graveside services and a memorial gathering will be at a later date. Precht-Harrison-Nearents is entrusted with arrangements.
