Betty L. Clarkson, 81, of Tonasket, died on Friday, March 14, 2014 at North Valley Hospital in Tonasket. She was born May 31, 1932 in Pine Creek to parents Bill and Lena Oakes. Betty grew up in Pine Creek, attending school there and then Tonasket. On Feb. 3, 1948 she married Ken Clarkson in Tonasket. Together they made the Tonasket area their home. Betty enjoyed sports of all kinds whether participating or watching; she enjoyed bowling and golfing with her friends, trap shooting and watching the Celtics, Jazz or Gonzaga play basketball on TV. But by far, her most favorite was being able to watch her grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports. Betty also had a love for the outdoors; she enjoyed elk hunting in the Clockum Mountains with her family, fishing and raising beautiful roses.
Betty is survived by her husband of 66 years, Ken Clarkson of Tonasket; two daughters, Barb (Bunk) Ayers of Tonasket and Terri (Rod) Armbruster of Deer Park; one son, Jim (Lisa) Clarkson of Tonasket; two sisters, Leona (Carmen) Bliss of Okanogan and Irene Freeman of Tonasket; two brothers, John (Adeline) Oakes of Tonasket and Gerald (Peg) Oakes of Tonasket; grandchildren, Bobbi Ayers, Jason (Jill) Ayers, Ryan (Hayley) McCliment, Regan (Pat) McCliment-Call, Stephanie (Kory) Schertenleib, Jessica (Dave) Hylton and Zack Clarkson; great- grandchildren, Dylan and Rylee Fewkes, Kody, Taylor, Walker, Karlee and Maycee Ayers, Tanner, Tyler, and Jacksen McCliment-Call, Tyson and Kara Schertenleib and Cash Hylton; and her favorite companion, Pug.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; one grandchild, Michael Ann Ayers; and many aunts and uncles.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Tonasket Cemetery with the Reverend Marilyn Wilder, officiating. Memorials may be made to the North Valley Hospital.
