Doris Marie (Freel) Hubbard, 80, of Okanogan, Wash., passed away Dec. 8, 2018 from complications of a stroke.
Doris was born Oct. 4, 1938 in Omak, Wash., to Clyde B Freel and Pearl O (Baker) Freel. She was the third of four girls, Cleo of Yakima, Wash., Nancy of Dayton, Wash., and Betty of Shelton, Wash.
She attended Omak High School.
She married Richard Hubbard in 1953 in Coeur d'Alene and soon after moved to a small cabin on the Green River outside of Auburn, Wash. Richard began working for Boeing and they moved to Algona, Wash. where they had three children, Karen, Duane and Joyce.
Doris worked at Hitco in Auburn building airplane components until 1976, when they moved to Okanogan to take over the orchard from Richard's parents.
She loved to golf and was a member of the Okanogan Valley Golf Club. She was a member of the Okanogan County Artists Association and hosted their BBQ every stampede. The family is blessed with many of her paintings. She learned upholstery work from her mother and continued reupholstering furniture and making sheets for the hospital until her death. She enjoyed lunch dates, playing cards and traveling with her girlfriends. She loved her family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by both her parents; her husband, Richard; her sister, Betty; and her daughter, Joyce. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Baxter (Will) of Orting, Wash.; son, Duane Hubbard (Brooke) of Okanogan, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all.
Service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018 at United Methodist Church, 130 N Cedar in Omak, WA, followed by a social gathering to exchange stories and share our love for Doris.
