Eugene Kendrick Fritts “Rinky”, 76, of Riverside, Wash., died in Wenatchee, Wash., at Central Washington Hospital, Feb.1, 2018.
Eugene was born March 18, 1941, in Tonasket, Wash., to George Eugene and Louise Sanderson Fritts. He joined the U.S. Army in October of 1959 and was stationed in Germany as a Heavy Equipment Driver until February of 1962 when he returned to Fort Lewis where he was Honorably Discharged.
He married Lona D. Hill, July 19, 1963, and continues to love her to this day.
Eugene’s career was with the railroad, although he always had a knack for crafting wood things and building classic cars. After 40 plus years, he retired from Burlington Northern Railroad and started Framed by Fritts with his son, Lance. This was a passion for him and he enjoyed working together with his talented son. His other passion was classic cars which he enjoyed with his son, Eric, and he was a Charter Member of Friendly OK Car Club in Omak, Wash.
His dedication to the community and veterans was represented by his membership in the Elks, Shriners, Masons and the American Legion. He was elected Exalted Ruler for the Elks and held that position from 2005-2006. He was also the American Legion Commander for Post 56 Okanogan from 2012 until his passing.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Lona, of the home in Riverside; his children, Terry Fritts, of Airway Heights, Wash., Eric Fritts, of Omak; and Lance Fritts of Riverside, his five grandchildren, Jarad, Eric, Kaylie, Joshua, and Craig. He was preceded in death by his sister, Gretchen Higgman, of Federal Way, Wash.; daughter, Heidi Davis, of Lynwood, Wash.; and son, Craig Fritts, of Omak.
A memorial is scheduled for 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at Precht-Harrison-Nearents in Okanogan, with a reception to follow at Okanogan American Legion Post 56 in Okanogan.
