Gene Lewis Gates, 82, passed away Feb. 4, 2018, in Omak, Wash. He was born in Tonasket, Wash., to his parents, Loy and Ruby Gates. After a divorce, Ruby married Clarence Field and moved her family to a ranch near Chesaw. Gene graduated from Molson High School in 1953. He joined the U.S. Army in the fall of 1953 serving in many different countries.
Gene married Ingrid Goldman in May 1965 in Germany. After 14 years of Military Service, they returned to Omak where Gene went to work for Biles-Coleman retiring from there in 1997. He then started a new job at Ferrellgas for 14 years. After retiring from Ferrellgas, Gene had time for his many hobbies, playing cards, traveling, seeing new places and visiting family. Gene spent many hours at the bowling alley and the horse shoe pits with friends.
Gene is survived by his wife, Ingrid; his mother, Ruby Field; his four children, Ralph, Steve and Jeanette Goldman and Eugene Gates; five grand children; and one great-grandson. Gene had two brothers, Rudy and Bill Gates; two sisters, Ilene Hirst and Nellie Kirk; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends please join us for a celebration of life at 1 p.m., Saturday Feb. 17, 2018, at the Elks Lodge, 110 Ash St., Omak, WA. There will be a luncheon following the service.
