John “Jack” H. Kirk, 92, died Feb. 10, 2018, in his home at Brewster, Wash. He was born June 27, 1925, in Chicago, Ill., to parents, Warren C. and Johanna (Olsen) Kirk. He attended school in Chicago, Elmhurst, Ill., and Brewster. He graduated from Brewster High School in 1943 as class valedictorian. Shortly after graduation, he began managing the family orchard until his retirement in 2002. He married his high school sweetheart, Marie Starzman, and together they raised five children.
For over 60 years, he was active in the Brewster School District as a School Board member, School Board Chair, Legislative Board Representative, a lifetime member of the FFA Alumni, and the NRA.
Jack’s reputation as a pillar of the education community extends far beyond the city limits of Brewster. In 2001, he was honored by the Washington State Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
He is survived by his children, John Kirk Jr. of Brewster, Joel (Debbie) Kirk of Brewster, Jay (Laura) Kirk of Anna, Texas; Jane (Patrick) McGuire of Brewster; son-in-law, Gary Evans of Plano, Texas; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Bohringer and Arnold Bohringer; and two half-sisters, Nancy Jensen and Mary Pierre.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Marie; daughter, Judy Evans; daughter-in-law, Cathi Kirk; a great- grandson, Adrian Garcia; and two brothers, Warren Kirk II and Ralph Kirk.
He was dearly loved by his family and the Brewster community. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of your choice.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, March 5, 2018, at the Barnes Chapel, 510 W. Indian Ave., Brewster, WA.
