Rodney Keith Verstegen ‘Sarge’, 62, of Omak, Wash. passed away Jan. 19, 2018, from a short battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 28, 1955, to Jerome (Bones) and Marcella (Marcie) Verstegen of Omak. Rodney was raised here in Omak and went to school and graduated from Omak High School.
He started work right after graduation, at the Omak Mill and he was there for 30-plus years. He was there until it last shut down. He then went to work for town of Omak where he cut lawns and did maintenance work. He worked with friends from his childhood and met new ones. He enjoyed going to work there.
Rodney had one son, Brodie K. Verstegen, his entire world revolved around his son and one step-son, Danny Guyer. Rodney loved hunting, fishing, ATVing, snowmobiling and spending time at the cabin. All kinds of sports from his younger years - bowling, baseball etc. He loved hanging out with his very close friend, Bob Henry, going fishing and hunting or just shooting the breeze with him.
He so enjoyed spending time with his grandson Brison.
He is survived by his wife, Ginger Verstegen; son, Brodie; mother, Marcella (Marcie); brothers, Jerry, Gary, Doug (Deb); sister, Debi (Bob) Howe all of Omak; brother-in-law, Jim Peterson of Renton, Wash.; one grandson, Brison; one step- grandson, Ned Guyer of Wenatchee, Wash.; four nephews; two nieces; four great-nephews; four great-nieces; aunts; uncles and cousins.
Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Jerome (Bones) Verstegen; sister, Diana Petersen; granddaughter, Kaidence Verstegen; and step-son, Danny Guyer.
Rodney enjoyed life to the fullest spending time with family and friends.
No services at this time. A celebration of his life will be held end of spring beginning of summer. Dates will be announced at a later time.
