Dick passed away Feb. 19, 2018 in Okanogan, Wash. He was born June 4, 1957, to Claude and Zella Phillips in Farmington, N.M.
Dick joined the U.S. Navy at age 16 and did a four-year tour. After the Navy, Dick moved to Challis, Idaho where he worked in the mining industry with his grandfather and namesake, Dick C. Black.
While living in Idaho, he married Billie Jo Buxton and had three children, Becki (Joe) Rakes, Dickie Calvin Phillips and Derrick Phillips his twin boys, which all reside in Idaho. Dick and Billie Jo later divorced.
Dick was a driller, blaster and a mechanic. He moved to Alaska and worked on the North Slope for a time. He met and married Laurie Kadrmus in 1991. They had one son, Damian Michael Phillips.
Dick moved to Okanogan to be closer to his family, whom came from as far away as Wisconsin and Georgia to celebrate his 60th birthday.
Dick was preceded in death by his father, Claude; and one brother, Tony. He is survived by his mother, Zella Van Natta; two sisters, Bonnie Kay (Tony) Hansen and Debra Phillips; four brothers, John (Derina) Phillips, Bruce (Lori) Van Natta, Joshua Van Natta, and Lucas Van Natta; and his favorite companion, Ratchet.
There will be a celebration of life this June in Challis, Idaho, other services were in Wasilla, Alaska.
He will be missed, his laughter remembered, and his heart not forgotten.
