2017 Brewster Chamber Awardees

For the first time, the Brewster Chamber of Commerce awarded businesses and individuals with good citizen designations last week. The chamber received four nominations for the small business award, six for the large business award and four for the citizen award via Facebook, email, snail mail and in-person submissions. Awardees included Sweet T’s, Gebbers Farms, Jason Allen and Dylan Gamble. Brewster City Hall will be adorned with plaques for each winner.

Shan Miller, owner of Sweet T’s, kisses chamber president Anna Marie Dalbey on the cheek after accepting the small business citizenship award. Because of her sundry service work, including a previous office with the chamber and management of the Brewster pool, Miller’s affectionately known as the “queen of Brewster,” Dalbey said.

Shan Miller has operated Sweet T’s gift store on Main Street for two years and plans to move the store’s inventory to Brewster Marketplace Pharmacy and True Value Hardware around spring. Before accepting the award, Miller made a contingency: “I just want to say thank you to you guys, but I only accept this on behalf of every single business owner in Brewster. We don’t do these things alone.”

Bob Grandy, risk management and food safety manager, accepted the large business citizenship award on behalf of Gebbers Farms. Dalby said nominations for Gebbers Farms spoke highly of the company’s service to the community, despite a lack of publicity.

Brewster Fire Chief Dylan Gamble received the second individual citizenship award for his 19 years with the Brewster Fire Department, involvement in local sports and the Log Church Christian School Parent Teacher Organization, and “love for the community” since childhood, Dalbey said.

Tying with Gamble for the individual citizenship award, Jason Allen was honored for his firefighting work with Douglas-Okanogan County Fire District 15, involvement in the Christmas toy drive and teaching fire safety education in local schools.
