Art show begins with reception

     This year's juried Omak Western and Native Art Show during Omak Stampede will include an auction and lots of art up for awards at The Courtyard Downtown in Omak, 28 N. Main.
     The art show begins with a champagne reception at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8. Artists will come from all over Washington and one from Canada.
     Cost to enter is free, and the show space is air conditioned, said event coordinator Doris Hubbard.
     Artists will mingle with those attending while showing work in a variety of media - oil, acrylic, pen and ink, and watercolor paintings, and sculptures and wearable art, said Hubbard.
     There will be music, an auction and awards.
     Auctioneer will be Steve Mitzner.
     Organizers say they expect at least 13 art booths showing Western art. One booth will include works by members of Okanogan County Artist Association.
     The show continues from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 9-11, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12.
     An auction the first night will include work donated by participating arts.
     Awards, sponsored by various merchants, will be presented Wednesday night and includee poster, Cates and Erb Logging and Construction; best of show, Pal's Realty; best native art, Colville Confederated Tribes; best Western art, Koala Street Grill and Neighborhood Bar; patron award, Precht-Harrison Nearents Chapel; best three-dimensional art, Wells Fargo Bank; heritage award, Desert Rose Studio and Paul's Interior Design; best drawing medium, VIP Insurance; best oil medium, Dr. Paul Hartkorn; best mixed medium, Covey's; best other medium, Esther Hinger and Tina Reeve Tharp, and best aqua medium, Sunrise Disposal.
     This year's poster displays the work of Barbara Conner-Reed, Okanogan, who was named poster winner during last year's show.
     On Sunday, a people's choice award, sponsored by Harrison Jewelers, will be presented following voting during the show.

     - Tina Reeve Tharp, Selah, watercolors, oils and acrylics, mixed media.
     - Robert Stem, Deer Park, oil, watercolor and pencil.
     - Susan LeBow, Bremerton, watercolor and Giclée prints.
     - Georgia Tongel and Jayme van Tongel, Tongel Art Studio, Nespelem, oil painting and limited edition prints and sculptures.
     - LeElla Day, Granite Falls, oils, pen-and-ink, watercolors.
     - Shannon Fharnham, Twisp, bronze and resin.
     - George Traicheff, Okanagan Falls, B.C., oil, pastels, and variety.
     - Barbara Conner-Reed, Okanogan, pastels and oils, acrylics.
     - Don Nutt, Coulee City, acrylic, watercolor and pencil.
     - Charlene Monger, Twisp, oils and watercolors.
     - Robert Walton, St. John, oils.
     - Esther Hinger, Brewster, oils, watercolors, pastels and wearable art.
     - Okanogan County Artists Association members, including Hedy Kleemeier, Okanogan, colored pencil, pastels and watercolors, and Suzanne Shultz, Oroville, acrylics.
     Okanogan County Artists Association will donate food for the reception.
