A record six interceptions by Curtis Hurlbert paved the way for Omak High School to bring home the class 2A football championship Dec. 2.
Hurlbert mirrored his teammates, who outleaped, outhustled, and outplayed Meridian in winning 30-14 at the Tacoma Dome.
Omak High School's football coach, Galen Kaemingk, and assistant coach John Sackman will guide the 2A All-Star football team during the all-state game June 23 at Zaepfel Stadium in Yakima.
Also assisting at the state game, which is set for 3 p.m., will be Doug McGill of Deer Park and Phil Zuchowski of Cashmere.
Omak's Curtis Hurlbert, Jason Thompson and Chris Allen were selected to play in the game, which features the best graduating seniors in the state.
Othello's Dan McCourtie, who is headed to the University of Washington, also play. McCourtie, a 6-3, 230-pound running back, amassed 1,170 yards on 136 carries and scored 24 touchdowns en route to several regional honors.

YAKIMA - A young Omak High School volleyball team reached the second day at state and finished eighth overall Nov. 10-11 at Yakima's Sundome.
Chelan topped Omak 15-12, 15-12 in the game for seventh- and eighth-place.
Ephrata also reached state but failed to make the second day of competition.
From the south CWAC, Grandview finished second, falling to Lakeside 15-10, 10-15, 15-11 in the championship.
Kiona-Benton finished fourth.

Royal used superior speed and desire to seize a 33-20 quarterfinal victory over Okanogan Nov. 18, a game where the state's two top-ranked, undefeated class 1A teams met on Omak High School's field.
Royal topped Tacoma Baptist 49-17 for the state title.
Okanogan's Will Derting, Jesse Rehm, Jordan Horner, Bryan Attridge and Darren Goetz were selected to the All-State 1A Football Game June 23 at Zaepfel Stadium in Yakima.
Brewster's Daniel Gebbers also was selected.

ELLENSBURG - Okanogan felt it's lone loss of the year in the state quarterfinals, falling to eventual state champion Colfax 15-5,15-8.
In the match for third and fourth, Okanogan fell 11-15,15-11,15-13 to Zillah.
