Cody Simons snatched first place in the 50-lap street stock main event and Tony Berkley won the modified main during racing July 21 at Republic’s Eagle Track Raceway.
Simons No. 23 car was one of six cars to finish a hotly contested main event. Brothers Monty and Jack Betcher displayed more sibling rivalry than brotherly love as they vied for position in the race.
Eleven cars started the race and Jack’s No. 11 car led laps four through 11. Monty, in the No. 19 car took over the lead during the 18th lap and held on till lap 35 when he blew an engine.
Jack’s No.11 car held onto second place from lap 18 until lap 24. Rob Cochran’s No. 1 car took over second briefly only to be passed again by the No. 11 car who held on to second place through the 30th lap.
The No. 11 then experienced a mechanical failure, going to the pits.
Glen Corfe’s No. 41 car ran in the front pack until he spun into the infield and lost a wheel. He was running in fourth place when the mishap took him to the pits in the 11th lap.
Darrin Metcalf’s 11X car finished in second place behind Simons. Rounding out the first five at the checkered flag were Greg Fisher in No. 66, Cochran in the No. 1 car and Randy Hotchkiss in No. 64.
Brian Whitney in No. 78 won the A dash, finished third in the heat and went to the pits during the final laps of the main.
Corfe’s No. 41 snagged second in both the A dash and A heat. Monte Betcher finished first in the A heat, while brother Duane in the No. 10 car won the B heat in front of Fisher, Simons and Jack Betcher’s No. 11. Monty Betcher finished fourth in the A dash.
Six out of 10 cars finished the 50-lap modified main event.
Dave Morgan in the No. 77 car led through the first 35 laps. Berkley in the 08 car took the lead in lap 36.
Dan Stillings in the No. 33 car started at the back of the pack but had worked his way into second place for the last two laps.
Ron Rampley’s No. 17 car was black flagged in lap 34. Officials said he passed on a yellow flag.
Finishing behind Morgan and Stillings were Brian Head in the No. 48 car, Casey Silverthorn in No. 53, Randy Sattler in No. 99 and John Miller Jr. in No. 56.
Berkley won the dash with Stillings taking second, Rampley third and Silverthorn fourth.
In the A heat, Rampley took first with Sattler, Berkley, Silverthorn and Stillings taking the next four places.
Morgan won the B heat with Jason Hanks in No. 21 taking second, Miller third, Head in fourth and John Alexander, Sr. in the 00 car finishing fifth.
In Fever Four action, Steve Hood in the No. 74 car had a great day snagging first place in the dash, heat and the main.
Behind him in the dash were Andy Miller in No. 21, Ken Marten in No. 14 and Jason Warren in No. 99.
Warren took second in the heat with Marten taking third. Doug Fehr in .08 finished fourth with Miller taking fifth.
Martin finished second in the main with the No. 21 machine taking third, Fehr fourth and Warren fifth.
In bump-to-pass racing John Alexander, Jr. took the checkered flag in the main with John Harris in No. 47 finishing second and Bill Hallam’s No. 88 taking third.
Hallam won both the dash and the heat with Alexander’s No. 8 car finishing in second place in both events and Harris taking third place.
Before the races Steve Hood made a backwards lap to honor Frank H. “Franky” Sieker who died of an apparent heart attack while racing at Eagle Track last year.
Sieker, who had pitted with Hood was racing his No. 52 car for the first time during the last race in July when he drove off the track.
He was declared dead at Ferry County Memorial Hospital.
Ten members of Sieker’s family were present to see Hood’s car make the lap while his car displayed his No. 52.
