Whitney leads stockers at Eagle Track as season nears end
By Brenda Starkey
Chronicle correspondent

With two more races left, Brian Whitney is leading in the Eagle Track street stock points race with Ron Rampley at the top in the modified class, Bill Hallam leading in bump-to-pass and Steve Hood in fever four competition.
The bump-to-pass race is virtually too close to call. Hallam’s No. 88 car has 350 points. while John Alexander Jr. in the No. 8 car is in a very close second place with 347 points.
Whitney’s No 78 car has garnered 340 points, with 41 points being added to that total at the July 21 Rick Martin - Flip Hougland Memorial race. His closest competition remains Glen Corfe in the No. 41 car who has 255.
Other top runners in street stock are Darrin Metcalf, No. 11X, with 242 and Greg Fisher, No 66 with 232 and Rob Cochran in No. 1 with 220.
Rampley and the No. 17 modified racer remains at the top of his division with 315 points. Dan Stillings’ No. 33 has chalked up 280 while Brian Head, driving the No. 48 car, is in a close third place with 263.
The main events for both street stock and modified racers July 21 were 50 laps long, double the standard 25 laps.
Incidentally, Stillings is the nephew of Rick Martin, one of the men honored at that race.
Martin and Hougland are both deceased, but did not die on the track.
Two drivers have no points because they have not joined the association, according to Eagle Track stats keeper Alana Strauch.
Steve Hood tops the fever four points race with 308 points. Ken Martin is in second place with 224 points.
Because of fires, the track at Northport was closed and several new racers came to Eagle Track to compete. New drivers include Jason Hanks and Tony Berkley at the wheel of modified cars and Jason Warren and Cory Schrader in fever four cars.
The next race will be Saturday, Aug. 4 starting at 3 p.m.
