An Eagle Track Raceway speed record was broken Aug. 4, which turned out to be a dusty race day marked by numerous crashes and yellow flags.
Tony Berkley in the No. 8 modified car broke a speed record, set in 1999, during time trials with a 21.357-second lap.
At the end of the day Ron Rampley's No. 17 car took top honors in the modified main event while Brian Whitney finished first in the street stock main, newcomer Jim Petty in fever four No. 42 won that main and John Alexander Jr. in the bump-to-pass No. 8 car took his main by default.
In the modified main, Jason Hanks in the No. 21 car appeared to blow an engine and went to the pits in lap eight. Dan Stillings in the No. 33 car and Brian Head in the No. 48 car spun out coming out of turn three in lap 11.
Berkley in the No. 08 car went to the pits during the yellow, a disappointment after breaking the record before the race.
The No. 77 car, driven by Dave Morgan, spun into the infield after turn three in lap 15; then John Alexander in the No. 00 car left the track.
Stillings passed Morgan when the No. 77 car spun out in the fourth turn during lap 18. Then Morgan spun out again between the third and fourth turns, which brought out the yellow.
Randy Sattler in the 99 car went to the pits also.
In the 23rd lap Brian Head's No. 48 car bounced off the guard rail in turn two and Stillings' No. 33 car ran over the top of him, bringing out the yellow again.
Head was towed off to the pits after he and Stillings shook hands on the track. Stillings got his car started again, but had remove his dragging front bumper before officials allowed him to finish the race.
Rampley finished first. Casey Silverthorn in the No. 53 car struggled to overtake him and took second. Morgan finished third.
New driver Kodii Anderson in the No. 11 car took fourth and Stillings finished fifth.
In the modified A dash Sattler took first followed by Rampley, Morgan and Anderson.
In the B dash Berkley finished in front of Stillings, Silverthorn and Head.
Head won the A heat. Stillings took second, Berkley third and Stillings fourth.
In the B heat Morgan took first, Rampley second, Hanks third and Anderson fourth.
In the street stock main Glen Corfe's No. 41 car, Rob Cochran's No. 1 and Andy Miller's No. 9 car crashed into each other between the third and fourth turns during lap three.
Cochran's car survived the mishap, and Miller was back on the track by the end of the yellow. Corfe, however, who has been running second in the points race, was out for the race.
Whitney in the No. 78 racer came around the pile-up in the infield.
After a yellow flag in the seventh lap, Whitney passed Darrin Metcalf's 11X car in lap eight to take the lead.
A battle for second place ensued, with Cody Simons in the No. 23 car passing Metcalf in the ninth lap. Simons chased Whitney around the dirt track for the rest of the race, but never overtook him.
Whitney, the points leader, finished first in the main. Simons took second. Greg Fisher in No. 66 snagged third, Cochran fourth and Miller fifth.
Whitney also snatched first place in the A dash followed by Cochran, Bill Hallam in the No. 88 car and Greg Fisher in No. 66.
Corfe took first in the B dash followed by Simons.
In the street stock A heat, Cochran took first, Whitney second, Corfe third, Fisher fourth and Steve Zuber fifth.
In the B heat it was Simons followed by Miller and Kevin Burley.
In the fever four main Coldiron took an early lead. The yellow flag came out early while two pieces of debris were removed from the front stretch.
Coldiron kept the lead through 13 laps.
Petty took the lead in lap 14, and a battle for second place ensued.
Ken Martin in No. 14 passed Coldiron in the 14th lap moving into the second spot.
Hood overtook Martin in the 16th lap only to be passed by Martin again in the 18th.
But, Hood came around Martin for the last time in the final lap. Coldiron finished fourth with Jason Warren in fifth place.
Martin snatched first in both the dash and heat. Petty snagged second in the dash and third in the heat. Hood, the points leader, finished third in the dash and second in the heat.
The bump-to-pass main restarted after Alexander Jr. in the No. 8 car bumped Hallam's No. 88 in the back stretch of the first lap, causing Hallam to lose a wheel. Meanwhile John Harris' No. 47 lost water and was also out of the race.
Following the fever four, the bump-to-pass racers tried it again.
A three-way bump in the first lap put Harris out of the race and brought out the yellow flag. The No. 8 car pushed him to the pits.
When the race restarted after yellow, Hallam passed the No. 8 car after a bump. Then Alexander Jr. returned the favor in the sixth lap.
Hallam's No. 88 car ran two laps on a flat tire. After eight laps of racing, Alexander Jr. finished first with Hallam taking second.
The No. 8 car also finished the dash and heat out front of No. 88. Harris drove to a third place finish in the dash, but that was the only event he finished.
The mechanics' race was called in the first lap when the No. 9 street stock car took out the guard rail in turn two.
