Okanogan played only freshmen in the second half of a 3-1 soccer loss to Entiat March 15 at home.
The Bulldogs shoveled the sidelines after a light snowfall in the morning, then proceeded to take on speedy Entiat, which scored three times in the first half.
“I was really proud of those boys in the second half,” said coach Steve Kunkel, who went with all freshmen and no substitutes after his three upperclassmen were not available.
Seniors Geovani Rodriguez and Henry Castillo were ill. Sophomore keeper Samuel Arroyo was injured in the first half.
“I told the team they will take their victories where they can, with quick passes, accurate passes,” said the coach. “If they keep going as they go now, and I keep them all, we will have a really good team.
“Our team has a lot of potential,” he said. “It’s good now. It’s only going to get better.”
Angel Nunez and Jarrod McClung both had good saves in goal. Oscar Morales and Angel Niebla worked well at midfield and forward, said the coach. Ethan Colbert played good defense.
Okanogan plays at Tonasket at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, then at Oroville Thursday, March 20.
