Some Curlew Lake rainbows worth $500
There is a tagged rainbow trout swimming in Curlew Lake that could bring a lucky angler $500.
The Curlew Lake Association is doubling the payments for tagged research money fish this year, with one fish worth $500, according to an association information sheet.
In order to get the money for tagged fish, anglers must bring them uncleaned to Tiffany's Resort for research data, the association said.
In past years the association has kept half of the fish money, but thanks to anglers who donated back to the net pen project last year, the association will give the full amount to those who turn in tagged fish, according to Dick Beers, association treasurer.
In the past two years 468,000 rainbows were released into the lake with 130,000 coming from the association's net pens, according to the information sheet.
The association wants to tag additional trout each year and strive for late fall releases in the 230,000- to 250,000-fish range. It asks for suggestions, ideas and comments to help it reach the goals.
Anyone willing to donate material, labor or money or sponsor fish tags can contact the Curlew Lake Association, P.O. Box 54, Republic 99166. Donations should be marked for "net pens" or "fish tags," according to the group.
