County tracksters win big at Ephrata track meet
     Okanogan County tracksters sped to some great marks at the annual Ray Cross Track Meet March 29 at Ephrata High School.
     The meet drew 27 teams, including three 4A schools all the way down to two 1B schools. County teams competing included Omak, Okanogan, Tonasket, Lake Roosevelt, Brewster, Oroville and Pateros.
     Brewster’s Kassidy Brown won the high jump at 5-2 and Jasen Brown took first in the 800 in 2:00.51. He also was second in the 1,600 in 4:33.05.
     Brewster girls were fourth in the 4x200 relay (Megan Brown, Kassidy Brown, Jackie McCormack, Mackenzay Leonard) in 1:58.21 and sixth in the 4x100 relay (Megan Brown, Amanda Youngers, Carlee Jarrell, Mackenzay Leonard) in 54.96.
     Brewster boys finished sixth in the 4x400 relay (Abraham Sonneman, Jasen Brown, Chris Pena, Micah Sanon) in 3:40.95.
     Pateros’ Diana Batson won the 400 in 1:00.83 and was second in the 200 in 27.17, and Karissa Carlson won the 1,600 in 5:20.52. Clara Hull was ninth in the javelin at 91-05.
     Omak was paced by Kaitlynn Pecha, who was second in the 3,200 in 12:19.14 and Chiara Rose-Witt, who finished fourth in the 400 in 1:03.5.
     Pecha also was eighth in the 1,600 in 5:43.86.
     Rose-Witt also was 11th in the 800 in 2:43.82.
     Kirstyn Harvill was sixth in the javelin at 97-01.
     “We thought we might have to turn the bus around and go back home after driving over an hour on icy roads,” said coach Dave Lamb about getting to the meet.
     “But after arriving in Ephrata the sun was out and the snow was melting,” he said. “It turned out to be a great day for track and field.”
     For Omak boys, Karl Schmidt was ninth in the triple jump at 37-9, 12th in the 300 intermediate hurdles at 46.18, and 16th in the long jump at 18-2.
     For Okanogan, Cole Timm was eighth in the discus at 112-03, Jovan Lopez finished ninth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.73, and the 4x100 relay (Kylee Maclean, Jed Mintzer, Ross Wood, Larkin Sommer) was seventh in 47.65.
     On the girls’ side, the 4x200 relay (Katie Bonser, Kristen Elsea, Brittnee Grooms, LeeAnn Fudge) finished third in 1:56.45.
     The 4x400 relay (Brittnee Grooms, Kristen Elsea, Kelly Downey, Nadine Downey) was fifth in 4:32.98. The 4x100 relay (Meka Townsend, Mindy Widell, Katie Bonser, Ruby Lopez) was 11th in 56.52.
     Jennifer Widell was third in the javelin at 99-10, Mindy Widell was fourth in the long jump at 15-0, Ruby Lopez was eighth in the long jump at 14-1.5 and eighth in the triple jump at 31-0.75, Kelly Downey was sixth in the 1,600 in 5:33.37, and Nadine Downey was seventh in the 100 high hurdles in 17.95.
     For Tonasket, the 4x400 relay (Shelby Olma, Kat Howerton, Jessica Spear, Michelle Carlson) finished ninth in 5:00.22.
     Veronica Puente was ninth in the 3,200 in 14:04.88 and 12th in the 800 in 2;46.81, Shelby Olma was 12th in the high jump at 4-4, Hayden Terrill was eighth in the pole vault in 10-0, 10th in the triple jump at 37-6 and 11th in the high jump at 5-4, and Jacob Longmire was 10th in the high jump at 5-6.
     For Oroville, Rachael Peters was seventh in the 300 hurdles in 52.18 and eighth in the 100 hurdles in 17.99, the girls’ 4x400 relay (Rachael Peters, Kayla McKinney, Alexis Olmsted, Angel Carrera) was eighth in 4:45.49, and Blaine Wagner was 10th in the 110 high hurdles in 18.32.
