Schmidt, Pecha take firsts at CTL track meet
Karl Schmidt and Kaitlynn Pecha each earned a first place finish for Omak at the Caribou Trail League track championships May 2 at Cashmere High School.
Schmidt won the triple jump at 41-02 on his final leap.
That bettered his previous personal best of 39-7 and moved him to the top of the standings.
“I knew he had at least a
40-foot jump in him that day, but when he went over 41, I think I may have been more excited than him,” said coach David Lamb. “It was an exciting jump to witness.”
Pecha won the 3,200 in 12:00.68 and set a personal best in taking second in the 1,600 in 5:35.60.
“The Omak athletes had a great meet at the league championships,” said the coach. “Nearly everyone made a personal record.”
Chiara Rose-Witt took second in the 400 (1:02.73) and sixth in high jump (4-6).
Kirstyn Harvill was fourth in the javelin at 99-02.
Amanda Emerson was sixth in the triple jump (29-7.5) and seventh in long jump (14-1.5).
nbsp;   Okanogan will next compete at district Friday, May 9, at Tonasket.
