Omak High School’s baseball team rode some highs and lows last week before being eliminated from the bi-district tournament.
The Pioneers stayed alive in the first round of May 6 at Wenatchee with a loss of 10-5 to Lakeside followed by a 20-3 win over Okanogan.
Cascade ended Omak’s season with a 4-1 win May 10 at Wenatchee.
Freeman edged Lakeside 11-10 in eight innings to earn the No. 1 seed to regional play this week. Lakeside heads to regionals seeded No. 2.
Brewster staved off elimination, winning 3-2 over Chewelah and then advanced to regionals (No. 3 seed), with a 9-2 win over Cascade.
Omak coach Frank Piscopo said his team ran into too much Kellen Parton in the loss to Cascade. Parton handcuffed Omak hitters, with only C.J. Lockwood (1-2) managing a single.
Lockwood would steal second base, reach third on an error and score on a balk for the Pioneers’ only run.
Daniel Weber started on the mound, giving up three earned runs on two hits and three walks in one inning.
Colton Roy finished the game, giving up one earned run on four hits while striking out seven and walking two.
In the loss to Lakeside, Omak led 3-1 after one inning only to give up six runs in the second inning while committing three errors.
Colton Roy went the distance, giving up 10 runs on eight hits while striking out two and walking none.
Hitting: Brett McCarty 2-4; C.J. Lockwood 1-3; Juan Garcia 3-4, double; Matt Howe 2-4; Brandon Ray 1-4; Colton Roy 1-2.
The loser-out game with Okanogan went seven innings (no 10-run rule in district play).
Brett McCarty went 4-4 with a home run.
Chris Lockwood opened on the mound, striking out five, walking three and giving up no hits.
Juan Garcia came on in the fourth with one out to finish with three strikeouts, four walks and two hits.
Hitting: McCarty 4-4, home run, 2 RBI; C.J. Lockwood 1-2, RBI; Chris Lockwood 2-3, triple; Juan Garcia 1-5, 2 RBI; Ray 3-5; Patrick Phillips 1-4, double, 2 RBI; Matt Webster 1-1, 2 RBI; Roy 1-3.
Piscopo said Omak graduates five including catcher Matt Howe, centerfielder Brett McCarty, first base/pitcher Chris Lockwood, shortstop Brandon Ray and outfielder Cody Mawdsley.
"They are good kids," Piscopo said. "I wish them luck. They definitely had an impact on our winning season (9-5 league, third place)."
