Okanogan softball finishes fourth in district
Okanogan High School’s softball team upset Cashmere before finishing fourth in the district tournament last week.
The Bulldogs won 9-6 over Cashmere on the southern Bulldogs’ field May 8, assuring Okanogan a berth to regionals.
In the final district games played May 10 at The Plex in Okanogan, the Bulldogs fell to eventual champs Chelan 8-0 and then dropped a 14-3 decision to Omak in the game for the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds to regionals.
Chelan (No. 1 seed) won 4-1 over Cascade (No. 2 seed) in the district championship.
Against Cashmere, Okanogan played error-free ball while outhitting the southern Bulldogs 18-13.
Tanna Meagher pitched a complete game, giving up six runs on 11 hits. She struck out eight and walked two.
She got lots of support behind her as Okanogan played error-free ball. Cashmere committed four errors.
Tara Marchand pounded a two-run home run.
“We played at Cashmere with a lot of energy and enthusiasm and it showed from the outcome of the game,” coach Brad McGaha said. “We hit the ball like we are capable of doing, played solid defense and got good pitching.”
Hitting: Liz Rosas 2-5, run; Tara Marchand 3-5, 2 runs 3 RBI, home run; Tanna Meagher 3-5, run; Carly Harris 2-3, 2 runs, RBI, double; Courtney Anderson 3-4, run, 4 RBI; Nakayla Cole, 2-4, 2 runs; Stefanie Spence-Marchand 1-4, double.
Chelan got to Meagher in the first game last Saturday, scoring eight runs on 13 hits in six innings. Meagher struck out two.
“Against Chelan we were a bit overmatched but I think the girls battled against a better team,” the coach said.
Hitting: Liz Rosas 1-3; Tara Marchand 1-3; Courtney Anderson 1-2; Cristina Kirchner 1-3.
The game with Omak ended in five innings, with Meagher striking out six while giving up 14 runs on 14 hits.
“We did not play with any emotion or fire against Omak and that showed by the way the game went,” McGaha said.
Hitting: Tara Marchand 1-2, 2 runs, walk; Devon McMaster 1-1, RBI; Carly Harris 1-1, RBI, walk; Quincee Heindselman 1-1; Courtney Anderson 1-2, walk.
