Okanogan qualifies 24 for regional track
     Okanogan High School's track team put in a successful effort at the district track meet May 9 at Tonasket, advancing 24 out of 26 team members.
     At district, the top four in laned events and top seven in non-laned events and field events advanced to regionals May 17 at West Valley High School in Spokane.
     The top three boys and top four girls from regionals will earn berths to the state meet in Tacoma.
     The effort showed in the team standings, with the girls finishing second with 133 points (Cashmere won at 184) and boys taking fourth with 70.5 points.
     Kelly Downey took first in the 800 (2:27.49) and Nadine Downey was first in the long jump (15-4).

     The sisters combined with Brittnee Grooms and Kristen Elsea in the 4x400 relay to take first in 4:18.78.
     In the field events, Meka Townsend and Jennifer Widell finished 1-2 in the shot put and discus.
     Townsend went 31-5 in the shot and 96-06 in the discus. She also won the javelin at 115-5.
     Widell went 31-00.25 in the shot and 91-08 in the discus. She was fourth in the javelin at 97-5.
     The 4x200 relay took second (1:51) with Katie Bonser, Kristen Elsea, Brittnee Grooms and Kelly Downey. The 4x100 relay team was fourth (54.32) with Nadine Downey, Mindy Widell, Katie Bonser and Kristen Elsea.
     Sophie Danison took third in the 1,600 in (6:15.76) and Ruby Lopez was third in the triple jump (30-3.5).
     Other girls advancing to regionals included LeeAnn Fudge in the triple jump (seventh, 29-1), Mindy Widell in long jump (seventh, 14-1), Rebecca Olson in the 3,200 (sixth, 15:03.66) and Kaylee Ray in the 3,200 (seventh, 15:13.87).
     On the boys' side, Okanogan did well in the discus.
     Tony Ronquillo took third (107-00), Cole Timm was fifth (102-9) and Adan Perez was sixth (96-6). Ben Navarro just missed regionals, placing eighth (95-07).
     Navarro did qualify in the javelin, where he was third (136-2), and shot put, where he was fourth (36-8.25)
     The 4x100 relay (Ross Wood, Kylee Maclean, Jed Mintzer, Jerid Peterson) took third in 47.39.
     The 4x400 relay (Jovan Lopez, Dillan Zunie-Allen, Jerid Peterson, Jed Mintzer) was fourth in 3:50.55.
     Others advancing include Lopez in the 110 hurdles (fourth, 17.55), Zunie-Allen in the long jump (fourth, 19-4), Wood in the long jump (sixth, 18-10.5) and Timm in the shot (fifth, 35-11).
