Rodeo and barrel racing under the lights returns to the Tonasket Comancheros rodeo grounds May 30-31.
Kids’ games, with barrel racing and pole bending, will kick off Founders’ Day Rodeo activities at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at the rodeo grounds south of town.
The top four barrel racers in three age groups will qualify to compete the next two nights, said Mike Stansbury. Kids’ games are free.
At 6:30 p.m. Friday night, the annual Jeremy Ives Memorial Bull Riding event returns, with up to 40 riders trying to get into a final go of 10.
“We will just keep rolling them,” said Stansbury of the many riders. “With the addition of the lights, it helps people who have to work to go with a later time.”
Also competing between rounds will be an open barrel racing event that is WBRA approved, along with the junior barrel qualifiers.
Saturday activities include a parade downtown at 11 a.m., Brock Hires singing at the rodeo grounds starting at 4 p.m. and rodeo at 6:30 p.m. with saddle broncs and junior barrels.
Each night clown Randy Mums will keep the crowd and riders in stitches with his antics.
Bullfighters Friday night will be Donnie Griggs and J.R. Leslie.
Don and Chad Hutsell’s Big Ben Rodeo Co., Ritzville, will provide stock. They also provide stock for the Omak Stampede.
Steve Kenyon returns as announcer.
Cost Friday and Saturday will be $12 for adults, $8 for those 6-12, and free for those 5 and under.
There will be full concessions both days.
Those in town Sunday can take in the Tonasket Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Wenatchee Youth Circus show at 1:30 p.m. at the high school. Cost is $5.
