Pateros girls finish third at 1B state track
     Pateros High School girls’ track team finished third among 1B schools May 23-24 at Eastern Washington University, Cheney.
     Along the way Karissa Carlson set a state meet record in winning the 1,600 in 5:16.52 (old record was 5:24.7).
     She also won the 3,200 in 12:06.30 and was second in the 800 in 2:22.24.
     Clara Hull broke her state meet record in winning the shot put in 36-11.50. She set the mark last year at 35-04.
     Also in the 1B meet, Curlew girls were sixth and its boys 13th.
     Other Pateros girls included:
     Diana Batson, who was second in the 100 (12.78), second in the 200 (26.00) and second in the 400 (58.66). All of her times bested 1B records set last year.
     Pateros boys included Josh Randall, eighth in the javelin at 122-07, and Ricky Heen, eighth in long jump at 16-8.
     Top Curlew girls included Noel Meyer, third in the 800 (2:31.19); Kay Engebretson, fifth in 800 (2:32.66), sixth in 400 (1:05) and third in 3,200 (13:10.09), and Noel Meyer, third in the 1,600 (5:44.52).
     The 4x200 relay finished fifth in 1:59.60. the team included Jessica Jones, Sabrina Charlson, Larissa Miller and Noel Meyer.
     The 4x400 relay finished second in 4:35.85. The team included Mackenzie Wilson, Larissa Miller, Kayla Engebretson and Noel Meyer.
     Wilson finished sixth in the javelin at 89-02.
     Austin Mannick paced the Curlew boys by taking first place and winning the shot put in a meet record 48-2.75. The old record was 44-6.75.
     Mannick was sixth in the high jump at 5-6.
     Curlew’s boys’ 4x100 relay finished fifth in 46.86. The team included Jesse Volluz, Brad Engstrom, Dakota Drennan and Mannick.
     Inchelium’s Josie Zacherle finished sixth in the discus (77-08) and Tyrone Swan was fourth in the javelin (148-02).
     The girls’ 4x400 relay finished sixth in 5:22.04. The team included Sadie Jacobsen, Jose Zacherle, Christine Finely and Samantha Chavez.
