Rampley ramps up to stock car win

     Ron Rampley, Tonasket; Steve Hood, Elmer City, and Darrin Metcalf, Midway, B.C., drove to victory May 31 as Eagle Track Raceway in Republic celebrated Canadian appreciation day.
     In the 25-lap modified main event Glen Corfe, Rock Creek, B.C., No. 41, took the lead in the third lap.
     Rampley in the No. 17 racer passed Corfe in the 12th lap.
     Republic’s Randy Sattler, No. 99, worked his way from the back of the pack and moved into third place in lap 19. He passed Corfe and finished a close second behind Rampley at the checkered flag.
     Corfe finished in third place with Chris Laughter, Deer Park, in No. 38 coming in fourth and Walter Miller, Colville, taking a fifth-place finish in the No. 33X car.
     In the modified A trophy dash, Rampley finished first. Wes Bryan of Kamloops, B.C., in No. 21, was second, Sattler took third and Cofe fourth.
     In the modified B dash Coy Shrader, Colville, snagged first place honors, Kinyon Beardslee, Kettle Falls, took third and Rhett Miller, Spokane, fouth.
     In the five-lap modified B heat Schrader was first; Wade Rupert, Colville, second; Laughter third, and Beardslee fourth.
     Walt Miller, Colville, took first in the A heat followed by Bryan, Rampley, Sattler and Corfe.
     In super stock competition Metcalf led the main event from the second lap.
     Andy Miller, Kettle Falls, No. 39, moved into third place in the fourth lap and then into second place in lap seven.
     Republic’s Cody Simons slid down the back guard rail, bringing the race to a halt.
     Leon Desautel, Electric City, in the No. 7 car moved into second place in lap 13, with Greg Fisher, Republic, and his No. 66 car running third.
     Fisher worked his way into second place in the 23rd lap.
     At the end of 25 laps it was Metcalf in first, Fisher second, Desautel third, Andy Miller fourth, and Steve Zuber, Colville, fifth.
     In the super stock A dash Zuber was first, Simons second, Metcalf third and Fisher fourth.
     Randy Hotchkiss, Republic, snagged first place in the B dash. Chris Southern, Colville, finished second; Scott Kuntz, Tonasket, third, and Desautel, fourth.
     In the B heat Hotchkiss finished first with Jon Alexander Jr. in a very close second place. Chris Southern was third, Kuntz fourth and Desautel fifth.
     Andy Miller snagged first in the super stock A heat. He was followed by Simons, Metcalf, Fisher and Bill Hallam.
     Jim Petty, Creston, led the fever four main event for 16 laps in the No. 42 car. Lucas Cole, Colville, held onto second place with his No. 77 car through nine laps.
     Steve Hood, Elmer City, drove the No. 74 car into third place in the third lap then drove his way into the lead.
     Cole was out of the race after 13 laps.
     At the checkered flag Hood was in the lead with Petty in second, Ken Martin, Spangle, third and Daniel Southen, Colville, fourth.
     Two sprint cars put on a special 15-lap exhibition race. Darren Smith, Culew, drove the Dognotti Racing No. 83 car while Rob Adams, Republic, was in the No. 7.
     Adams led 14 and three-fourths laps with Smith passing him on the last corner to take the checkered flag.
     Smith dedicated the race to Bob Smith, who was killed in an auto-semi accident May 29.
     The next race will be Prospectors Days weekend. The action will start at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 15, at Eagle Track Raceway south of Republic.
