Kelly Little, Okanogan, took first in an open race and first in a 20-lap free-for-all during the fifth annual lawnmower races June 21 at the Omak Stampede Arena.
The races were part of the annual Motor Rodeo presented by Omak Stampede, Inc., according to Dave Covey.
Trophy dashes were four laps, heat races were 10 laps and main events were 15 laps. Divisions were split up by horsepower (12 horses for one, up to 18 horses in another) and a modified class (for those liking to change cams, crank shafts and pistons).
Covey thanked Larry Schreckengast, who got in a quick trophy dash before taking over as start/finish flag man for the races hosted by the Okanogan Valley Lawnmower Racing Association.
This year’s races drew 27 machines from around the state, three from Idaho and one Canadian entry.
Those interested in joining the group or learning more about lawnmower racing can contact Covey at 826-1656.
“We are always looking for people and mowers we can tear apart,” he said.
